Dublin-based pop duo ROOUE – made up of twin sisters Roisin and Lou – have quickly established themselves as one of the most exciting emerging bands on the Irish scene.
Dublin-based electro-pop twins ROOUE have released a new video to complement their latest single ‘Orbit’. Through scintillating 2000s pop, remarkable harmonization and R&B inspiration, ROOUE takes an insightful look at love, loss and uncertainty in 2022.
“‘Orbit’ delves into the vulnerable perspective of how one suddenly expects not to be in love, just because the relationship is over,” says ROOUE, “However, hours before the breakup, you would have done no anything for that person. It’s as if a sentence has turned your life upside down, as you know it.
Released in April, “Orbit” became their fifth single – their most compelling and radio-friendly to date. The music video, which we present today, enhances the narrative with dramatic cinematography.
“With this video, we really wanted to create a sense of emotional chaos, mimicking the feeling of disoriented relationships. It represents what we felt while writing the lyrics to ‘Orbit.’ of the video are a metaphor for sanity and safety, which we continue to pursue throughout the video.
This burst of light grows stronger when we are together, as we were mutually safe and sanity through one of the most difficult years of our lives. Through our breakups and mental health struggles, we have always found solace in each other.
Still early in their career, ROOUE’s singles have already garnered millions of hits on Irish radio.
Roisin and Lou were born in London before moving to Dublin as children. They grew up in a creative hotbed, raised by a music therapist mother and a “music-nerd” father. Their lives have been punctuated by everything from jazz and classic rock to Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera.
Although they have always made music, it wasn’t until 2019 that the twin sisters decided to reunite under the name ROOUE, a portmanteau of their first names. A few months later, they had their first single ready to be recorded. When COVID hit, the duo created a home studio leading to the release of “What You Want” in 2020. Since then, ROOUE has released three more singles: “Flavour”, “Bad Blood” and “Dancing Sad”.
“We drifted into more commercial pop, but over time we drifted into 2000s vibes with old school roots,” they explain of their musical evolution. “We’ve really grown as people, even though it’s only been a year.”
