Protoje talks about “Family” in his new single

PROTOJE makes its rounds. The Jamaican artist’s 2020 album was titled In Search of Lost Timeand he’s back on the road to do just that.

The Grammy-nominated singer performed the album live for the very first time since the pandemic, nearly two years after its release.

Fresh off of their sold-out European tour and US festivals – from the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival to the Roots Picnic – Protoje will return to the US this fall for The Lost In Time Tour.

Fellow artists and fellow Jamaicans Jesse Royal and Lila Iké will join him on his headlining tour. See full dates below.

To celebrate the announcement, Protoje is aptly releasing their new single and video “Family” featuring Jesse Royal.

The bop produced by iotosh is the third single, after “Hills” and “Not incisivefrom his anticipated sixth studio album slated for release in September 2022 via In.Digg.Nation Collective/Columbia Records. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks.

Protoje keeps his bag tight and ignites an inviting energy on “Family.”

The video, directed by SAMO, features his loved ones in a series of vignettes. The standout visual features Protoje, Jesse Royal and their friends rolling through the streets of Los Angeles in candy-coated classic cars.

“This song started out as a positive meditation on being back on the road,” Protoje said.

“Then once I said the word ‘family’, it changed the tone, because I started thinking about how much we use the word family in Jamaica. I thought about how many people I called my family, who didn’t really deserve this reference.

“Family is the ones you can rely on in times of need, the ones who are there for you at your lowest.

“These last two years have shown me who my family is. Jesse was perfect for this song. He has this incredible energy in him that uplifts you. We have a close relationship that has grown steadily over the years, so it’s going to be great for us to tour together this fall,” says Protoje.
