WHAT better way to mark a birthday than with a special song?

Next month, Lexicon Mall in Bracknell will mark its fifth anniversary with a special anniversary ball event.

Taking place on Saturday September 3, it will see a host of artists come to our neighboring town and celebrate with music.

The event begins at 3:30 p.m. with songs specially written for the Brakcnell Forest Giants. It will be performed by students from Wooden Hill and Birch Hill Primary Schools, as well as Sophie Abbot from Sandhurst School and Tilly Mills from College Town Primary School.

At 4:10 p.m., Vocalese will sing songs for the public to join in.

Then, at 5 p.m., the Barta Theater Academy will showcase the dancing, singing and acting talents of students from Wokingham and Bracknell.

Saxophonist YolanDa Brown, will play catchy tunes accompanied by her band at 5:40 p.m.

Then, at 6.40pm, the band Forest Folk will take the stage, performing songs from the Bracknell Forest Festival as well as folk music for all to enjoy.

At 7:20 p.m., Dexter and The Dimes, a rock band from the 50s, will play hits by artists such as Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Little Richard.

The final act of the Birthday Proms is Reading-based indie pop band Only The Poets, who will start their set at 8.30pm. Formed five years ago, the band have just returned from a sold-out European tour.

Rob Morris, Managing Director of The Lexicon, said: “Our free Proms events are always hugely popular and we have no doubt that our special anniversary performances will be one of our best yet.

“The programming includes something for all members of the family, and we hope the local community will join in our anniversary celebrations.”

It wouldn’t be a birthday without a cake, and The Lexicon will be giving away 1,000 cupcakes, 500 tote bags and birthday badges.

Andrew Hunter, Executive Director, Place, Planning and Regeneration at Bracknell Forest Council says: “Over the past five years, The Lexicon has transformed our town centre.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the fifth anniversary, especially with so many fantastic local artists showcasing their talent.

“Being able to bring the incredible success Only the Poets back to their Berkshire roots underscores the importance of this fantastic milestone for the borough.”
