KONVENT’s Call Down The Sun album due in March; “Grains” music video released

After their first full-length album, Puritan Masochism, took the entire doom and heavy metal scene by storm when it was released two years ago, March 11 will see the return of Danish blackened death doom Konvent with a second offering. which doubles the songwriting of the talented group and its brutal and heavy sound.

Konvent’s sonic evolution over just two years is immediately evident on Call Down The Sun, surprising with new elements at every turn. Undoubtedly inspired by recent dark times, the ongoing pandemic, and the cancellation of live performances, the new album sees the Copenhagen-based band more edgy, fast-paced, and all-black. Rikke Emilie List’s throaty, sublime growls and ferocious screams fit neatly into a heavy wall as hell of blackened death metal riffs and funeral doom metal from guitarist Sara Helena Nørregaard, backed up by a thick, rhythm section and deep provided by bassist Heidi Withington Brink and drummer Julie Simonsen.

But listen, because today Konvent unleashed a first single from Call Down The Sun. “Grains” is a floor-shaking black doom metal epic that will be a staple of the band’s upcoming live setlists – showcasing their deep dark soul with a hint of post-metal and even progressive elements.

“‘Grains’ is all about repeating self-destructing patterns and not knowing how to get out of that cycle. This is Konvent’s first song to contain Danish lyrics, because we felt like the song demanded it,” comments singer Rikke.

Check out the clip for “Grains” below.

“In our search for a video producer, we found Martin Goltermann and we quickly shared the same vision for the video; atmospheric shots of sand and sea reflecting the words and journey of a dark-haired woman. We were in a hurry, Julie had to step in and play the part of the woman. After two days of filming by the windy coast and in our cold rehearsal space, Martin wanted to go out with Julie again to get some final shots. However, he had to snow overnight and he managed to capture these beautiful photos of Julie sliding through the wintry landscape. We loved it so much that we deleted all the other images. “

Recorded and mixed by Lasse Ballade at Ballade Studios, Copenhagen and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege Studio, the thunderous apocalyptic sound of the new album is impossible to escape. Call Down The Sun, a refreshing and vibrant record that’s not only poised to top the album charts of the year 2022, but reigns as one of the best blackened death metal and doom metal records of the year. modern times.
