Dunedin Tenors ready to rock at the Mayfair Theater

Screaming guitars, big hair, smoldering stares, super tight jeans and raspy voices – you can expect a major musical throwback to the late 20th century when Rock Tenors take the stage at the Mayfair Theater in Dunedin in July.

Doug Kamo may have been living on a prayer lately trying to put on shows during the Covid-19 pandemic, but the local producer and director has kept the faith and will put on a show with five rock heavyweights singing songs from Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses, Aerosmith, Whitesnake, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, U2, Dire Straits, Kiss, AC/DC, David Bowie, Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Queen and many more.

Mr Kamo said Dunedin tenors Luke Butson, Greg MacLeod, Steve Jones, Max Beal and Justin Wilson will sing alongside a seven-piece band that will perform classic rock anthems in an “immersive show that promises to deliver the ultimate rock experience”.

Mr Butson, who starred in the recently canceled Queen stage show we will Rock Yousaid he was looking forward to getting back on stage.

“While I’m thrilled to finally be able to sing some Queen songs, I’m really thrilled to be able to sing songs by over 20 of the greatest rock bands of all time.”

Co-musical director Michael Grant said Mr. Kamo was very specific about how he wanted the arrangements to sound.

“It’s important that the integrity of the songs remains in order to meet customer expectations, but the emphasis is on the vocal arrangements to showcase the vocal talents of the tenors, which is incredibly exciting.”
