Bad Bunny’s Controversial Kiss at the VMAs Divides Fans Online: Here’s Why

Bad Bunny runs down the list of artists who kissed someone on live TV, which turned out to be one of the most controversial things to happen at the time.

Last night during the performance of “Titi Me Pregunto” at the MTV Video Music Awards, Bad Bunny stole a quick kiss with a male dancer, which sent Twitter into a divided frenzy over what it was to make up for the ‘display.

The Puerto Rican singer won Entertainer of the Year at the MTV VMAs, making history for Latinx winners in the specific category.

Performing from New York’s Yankee Stadium, Bad Bunny blew up the screens of everyone from New York to New Jersey and across the country with his hit “Titi Me Pregunto.”

In the last part of the performance, where all the dancers are gathered around him, Bad Bunny made a rather unpredictable move – embrace her male dancer on the lips for a few seconds.

While same-sex relationships aren’t new to American television, moments like these have received polarizing views from viewers over the years; take, for example, the 2003 VMAs controversy between Madonna and Britney Spears.

The surprising moment is hitting Twitter, with many fans of Bad Bunny, formerly known as Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, excited about what they’re seeing on TV.

“I REALLY SAW BAD BUNNY KISSING A MAN ON STAGE WITH MY OWN TWO EYES. WE LOVE BISEXUAL BENITO,” one excited fan said.

Others were even surprised with happiness, noting that he shared similarities with Britney Spears and Madonna’s infamous kiss at the 2003 Video Music Awards.

Meanwhile, some weren’t convinced, noting that Bad Bunny has only been queerlike what some also accuse Harry Styles.

“I just turned on my TV and saw this Bad Bunny guy kissing another guy during his performance. Is the whole world LGBT or is there a program?” Internet user tweeted.

Bad Bunny recently voiced breaking gender norms in her fashion sense and even in the music, which is why the Reggaeton star’s fans weren’t so surprised by the TV kiss.

Besides Camilla Cabello, Bad Bunny is the second latin artist winning Entertainer of the Year at the MTV Video Music Award and the first non-English language singer.
